WIKADUKE Trail Meeting Recap

1–2 minutes

September 30, 2025, 9:30 a.m.
Na-Au-Say Township Building, 1312 Wheeler Road, Plainfield, IL

Through the initial round of community workshops and interviews, promoting intergovernmental cooperation was a frequent theme. Reconvening the communities along the WIKADUKE Trail (Ridge Road) was suggested for continued discussion  and coordination.  The project team thus hosted a meeting inviting all municipalities, townships, and the County to join the conversation. 18 attendees showed up for the meeting.

Mike Hoffman with Teska provided a brief history of the WIKADUKE Trail, highlighting elements that have been completed, status of current planning in the corridor, and what remains to be completed.

Fran Klaas with the Kendall County Highway Department mentioned the importance of the route as there is no contiguous north-south corridor between Route 47 and Route 59 (a 12-mile gap).

He noted that the County maintains jurisdiction south of Plainfield Road to the County Line. The County has included a couple of major projects in the corridor in their 5-year plan such as road widening between Holt and Black Roads as well as between Caton Farm Road and Plainfield Road.

State Representative and Wheatland Township Highway Commissioner Harry Benton was also in attendance. He encouraged intergovernmental coordination and working with IDOT for potential funding given the regional nature of the roadway.

Participants then discussed what was going on within their jurisdictions. All communities were generally following the guidelines in the plan. Participants felt that no major changes were needed and the original WIKADUKE plan was still valid (except for some land use changes). All agreed to continue to work cooperatively to further the plan.
