On July 14, the project team hosted the fourth community workshop at the Oswego Township Building in Boulder Hill. A big thank you to everyone who attended—and a special shoutout to The Beacon News for joining us and helping spread the word!
The workshop began with a presentation outlining the project’s purpose, scope, team members, and timeline. We also walked participants through the project website, including how to use the interactive comment map and survey tools. Attendees participated in a fun live poll via their phones, sharing their experiences living in Kendall County and early impressions of the area. The team also presented highlights from the draft existing conditions report, touching on key topics such as demographics, employment, housing, education, and natural resources.
The discussion throughout the evening was lively and insightful. Here are some key takeaways from the community:
- Kendall County is rural, but quickly transitioning to a more suburban character. Residents appreciate the wide-open spaces and overall relaxed atmosphere.
- Popular destinations include forest preserves, local restaurants and bars, and the Fox River.
- Top concerns raised by participants include traffic congestion, natural resource preservation, and water supply.
- Looking ahead, residents envision a Kendall County with a thriving local economy, an expanded and well-planned road network, protected natural areas and farmland, and a more balanced property tax base.
