Workshop 2 Recap

2–3 minutes

On June 4, the project team hosted the second public workshop for the Kendall County Comprehensive Plan at the Kendall Township Building. This session focused on the central to northwest areas of the County, including Kendall, Fox, Little Rock, and Bristol Townships.

The evening began with a presentation by the project team, highlighting the purpose and scope of the Comprehensive Plan, introducing team members, and demonstrating the project website and interactive engagement tools. The presentation also provided an overview of key data on Kendall County’s current conditions—covering demographic trends, the job market, housing, education, and natural resources.

Throughout the presentation, attendees shared valuable insights. Highlights from the discussion included:

  • As one of the fastest-growing counties in Illinois, Kendall County should remain proactive and forward-thinking in its planning efforts.
  • Nature-based destinations such as Forest Preserves and the Fox River are the popular places for visitors.
  • In addition to traditional attractions like downtowns and forest preserves, commercial sites such as Menards are also frequent destinations for first-time visitors to Kendall County.
  • Currently, the top three challenges that residents feel that Kendall County is faced with are high property taxes, balancing development with rural character, are increasing traffic.
  • Transportation infrastructure needs improvement to better serve both local residents and regional travelers.
  • In the next 10-15 years, residents want to see the County preserve natural areas and farmlands while expanding the property tax base and a  thriving local economy.
  • The new data centers planned in Yorkville are expected to support improvements in the County’s property taxbase.
  • Strengthening communication between the County, townships and municipalities is critical to avoid conflicts in development goals and land use planning.

The planning team will host two more public workshops—One in Oswego Township and one in Plano. Additionally, we’ll have a pop-up booth at the National Night Out event hosted by the Kendall County Sheriff’s Office. Please join us at whichever event works best for you!
